Lil Wayne, Post Malone Allegedly Lied to Feds to Get $8 Million

Lil Wayne and Post Malone are being accused of lying to federal authorities in order to obtain over $8 million in pandemic loans.

Lil Wayne and Post Malone Allegedly Lie About Drug-Use to Get Pandemic Aid

On Friday (March 15), Business Insider reported that they had filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Small Business Administration to investigate celebrities who had received millions in pandemic loans back in 2021. Among those celebs were Post Malone and Lil Wayne. The publication claims both artists had told the feds their touring companies were a “drug-free workplace,” a necessary step to receive pandemic-related grants.

Business Insider then criticized Wayne’s open use of marijuana, as well as Posty’s admittance to using shrooms. The publication claims this meant the rappers boldly lied to the SBA in order to get grants for $8.9 million and $10 million, respectively.

When reached for comment, the SBA wrote back to the outlet and said “personal actions” did not necessarily disqualify aid, but confirmed they were looking into certain loans they paid out.

“The SBA’s process of monitoring and auditing of grant recipients is actively ongoing,” a statement read. “To date, about $40 million has been returned from SVOG grantees and additional files have been referred for ongoing criminal investigation or civil recovery. To date, none of the recoveries relate to the drug-free certification.”

XXL has reached out to Lil Wayne and Post Malone’s team for further comment.

Lil Wayne Settles Lawsuit With Personal Chef

The allegations come after Lil Wayne settled a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by his former personal chef. According to documents obtained by XXL, Lil Wayne’s former personal chef, Morghan Medlock, filed paperwork at Los Angeles County Superior Court on March 8. The paperwork told the court that she and Weezy had settled her wrongful termination lawsuit, though explicit terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Lil Wayne Got $9 Million In COVID Aid For Having A Drug-Free Tour Workplace

According to Business Insider, Lil Wayne is one of many artists who got a sizable check from the U.S. government for their touring practices. Moreover, he reportedly claimed that his touring company was a “drug-free” workplace so that authorities would give him $9 million in federal pandemic aid through the Small Business Administration (SBA). Specifically, the former Hot Boy apparently gave stern warnings to his co-workers about the “dangers” of drugs on tour, and threatened punishment or rehab to anyone caught using substances. Then, when he and his team requested aid from the SBA, they approved his request and cut him an $8.9 million check to Young Money Touring, Inc.

Not only that, but apparently Post Malone is another artist who used this justification for his touring company to get more funds. While neither he nor Lil Wayne have shied away from their drug use, it seems like the SBA doesn’t take into account past activity. In addition, the agency’s inspector general had admitted last year that its employees only had about four hours to review and respond to applications. As such, some fans and publications believe that this is the result of a rushed process not having the time or resources to make a thorough revision. But that’s only if there’s a lie here, which we have no concrete reason to believe… nor, admittedly, deny.

Via a statement, the SBA clarified that they did not consider “personal actions” from folks like Lil Wayne or drug use from March 2020 to June of 2022, which is presumably the period of eligibility for this compensation. “When you have social status, your substance use is treated in a different way,” public health expert Harold Pollack of the University of Chicago remarked. “They don’t brutalize a lot of celebrities for behaviors that we would very harshly treat in people with less prestige.” These touring companies received aid under the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program, intended to uplift music venues amid bankruptcy and, as a federal program, required certified compliance with federal laws.

“The fact that touring artists have a different lifestyle doesn’t mean that they weren’t impacted in a substantial way by the pandemic,” Josh Schiller stated. He’s a lawyer with past entertainment industry clients who sued for marijuana’s legalization. “Was there a better use of those grants? I think that’s really a good question.” If the SBA finds that Weezy lied about this tour environment, the team could face a lawsuit or heavier prosecution. Lil Wayne Claimed To Operate “Drug-Free Workplace” For $9M In Pandemic Aid

Lil Wayne reportedly told the government his touring company was a “drug-free” workplace in order to secure $9 million in federal aid.

According to Business Insider, he warned his employees about the “dangers” of drugs and said they could be punished or ordered to rehab if they were caught using. Subsequently, the Small Business Administration (SBA) moved forward with Lil Wayne’s request, and the government cut a $8.9 million check to his company Young Money Touring Inc.

Post Malone allegedly did something similar, telling the SBA his touring company was anti-drugs. But during a 2020 interview with Joe Rogan, he copped to taking mushrooms while recording. The documents Lil Wayne and Post Malone signed were just the tip of the iceberg. The SBA likely didn’t investigate their requests at all in its rush to cut checks. Last year, the agency’s inspector general admitted employees had just four hours to review applications.

In a statement, the SBA said it didn’t cover “personal actions” of people like Lil Wayne and Post Malone or any drug use outside the period from March 2020 to June 2022.

“When you have social status, your substance use is treated in a different way,” Harold Pollack, a public-health expert at the University of Chicago, said. “They don’t brutalize a lot of celebrities for behaviors that we would very harshly treat in people with less prestige.”

Post Malone and Lil Wayne’s companies were among the recipients of aid under the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program, which was intended to help struggling music venues avoid bankruptcy. As with many federal programs, recipients had to certify they followed federal laws.

“The fact that touring artists have a different lifestyle doesn’t mean that they weren’t impacted in a substantial way by the pandemic,” Josh Schiller, a lawyer who has represented clients in the entertainment industry and sued to legalize marijuana, said. “Was there a better use of those grants? I think that’s really a good question.”

Lil Wayne has never hid his love for marijuana and other substances. In fact, he has the word “baked” tattooed on his face. The $9 million grant could come back to bite him though. The SBA told applicants that they could be sued or even prosecuted for lying.

Lil Wayne Settles Lawsuit With Former Personal Chef

Lil Wayne Hit With Lawsuit By Chef Claiming Wrongful Termination Over Family Emergency

As previously reported, Lil Wayne was sued by his former personal chef in December of 2022. In her lawsuit, Morghan Medlock claimed that she was wrongfully fired over allegedly leaving her scheduled shift to be with her injured 10-year-old son who had been hospitalized.

TMZ reported that while Medlock was on a trip to Las Vegas with Weezy over the Memorial Day weekend, she received news that her 10-year-old son had been hospitalized in Los Angeles with a head injury. When Medlock tried to expedite her return trip to her son, she alleged that Wayne caused a flight delay by smoking on the aircraft.

Medlock then decided to get on a separate flight instead of waiting around. Despite her claim of notifying Wayne’s assistant about her decision, his team persistently inquired whether she was quitting the company. Although Medlock alleged to have told them she wasn’t, they eventually told her she had been fired. According to Medlock’s suit, a message directly from Tunechi eventually reached her, which reportedly read, “Tell Chef Morghan this isn’t going to work.”

In her lawsuit, Medlock asserted that her wrongful termination violated California law and was seeking restitution amounting to at least $500,000.

Lil Wayne Puts Former Chef’s Lawsuit To Rest

Lil Wayne reached a settlement with his former private chef, who sued him in 2022. According to Fox 11 Los Angeles, chef Morghan Medlock worked out a deal with her former employer on Tuesday (March 5).

Medlock’s attorney informed Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Kristin Escalante of the settlement on Thursday (March 7). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Lil Wayne avoided trial by settling with Medlock out of court. A trial was scheduled for July 8.

Medlock filed her lawsuit in December 2022. She accused Lil Wayne of discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination.

The chef claimed Weezy fired her for leaving work to take care of her injured child, who was hospitalized with a head injury. Medlock’s son suffered the injury while she was with the rapper in Las Vegas for Memorial Day weekend 2022. The chef insisted she did everything possible to accommodate her boss despite her need to return to Los Angeles to be with her son.

“Though she was well aware of her job tasks and schedule and anticipated return date to Los Angeles, Ms. Medlock made her best efforts to coordinate her return to Los Angeles in conjunction with her job tasks and [Lil Wayne’s] scheduled return to Los Angeles, which would have allowed her to then go directly to care for her son,” her lawsuit contended.

Medlock booked a separate flight to get back to her son. Lil Wayne’s assistant asked Medlock if she was quitting, which she denied. The chef thought his team would understand her situation, but she got fired days later.

“Tell Chef Morghan this isn’t going to work,” Lil Wayne’s assistant told her, relaying a message from the diamond-selling artist.

Lil Wayne denied any wrongdoing. His lawyers said Medlock was fired for “legitimate, good faith, justified, nondiscriminatory and/or non-retaliatory business reasons.”

Footage Of Lil Wayne Face-Off With Security Surfaces After He Put Lakers On Blast

Video of Lil Wayne’s confrontation with security at a Los Angeles Lakers game emerged on Friday (March 1). The clip showed event staff preventing him from going to his courtside seats while the Lakers played the Washington Wizards at the Crypto.com Arena on Thursday night (February 29).

Lil Wayne condemned the Lakers for his mistreatment on social media. He assumed the issues stemmed from his past criticism of Lakers star Anthony Davis.

“Wow!” Weezy wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). “Got treated like s### at the Laker game just now but I figured they’d do me that sooner or later either bc of what i said abt AD or simply bc they don’t fwm which I been got that vibe from em as well so all good I get it. Lil Wayne discussed the Lakers game incident during an appearance on Fox Sports 1’s Undisputed. The diamond-selling rapper claimed he only attended the game at the behest of a brand he’s promoting.

“I didn’t want to go to that game,” he told host Skip Bayless. “I was asked to be at that game. It was to promote the wardrobe I had on, which was also in cahoots with the NBA or whatever … I was asked to be there. That’s why I was like, ‘Wow.’ I didn’t expect the security guy to know I was asked to be there to promote something. But I would’ve rathered a smoother entrance.”

Lil Wayne stood by his social media comments on Undisputed. He thought his opinion of Davis caused problems at the arena.

“When I tweeted that, that was obviously raw emotions,” the former Cash Money Records artist said. “But there’s truth. I mean it’s all facts behind my beliefs and behind that opinion. I did believe that I felt like there was something about the whole A.D. thing that was kinda like, ‘We don’t need this guy.’”

Lil Wayne previously said the Lakers would not win another NBA championship unless they got rid of Davis. He made the remarks on a 2023 episode of Undisputed.

“If the Lakers want to be a championship team, in the future as well, they got to get rid of AD,” Wayne stated. On another episode, the Hip-Hop superstar also argued, “He ain’t done nothing for us, bro. That ‘bubble championship’ – that don’t count. That man has done nothing for the Lakers.”

Lil Wayne did not elaborate on exactly how the NBA franchise allegedly mistreated him. The diamond-certified recording artist has been seen sitting courtside in the Crypto.com Arena for Lakers games in recent months.
