Jaylen Brown Reflects on Celtics Trade: ‘Message Was Received’

Jaylen Brown did not appreciate how he was treated by the Boston Celtics before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. The star forward recently shared his perspective on the transition, suggesting that the organization’s handling of the situation left much to be desired.

“There was definitely a message being sent. And that message was received,” Brown said during a recent Twitch stream. “I wasn’t thrilled with the amount of respect that was shown during this process.”

Brown elaborated on his feelings regarding the communication breakdown, specifically pointing toward the front office. “I think there was a bit of a lack of respect. It was fine at one point, and then out of nowhere things just kind of went left. I think team president of basketball operations Brad Stevens is probably getting a lot of the criticism. And I wasn’t thrilled with the way he facilitated some of the conversations. But I definitely think there’s more to it.”

Despite his public comments, Brown noted that Stevens never provided clarity on what that “more” actually entailed. “I just wish that the ‘more to it’ could have been explained to me,” Brown added. “If it was explained, I think I would have understood. And I thought I earned enough respect to get that explanation. But hey, obviously I was wrong.”

Many observers believe the tension began following the Celtics’ first-round exit against the Philadelphia 76ers. At the time, Brown had remarked that the season was his favorite to date, a comment that some interpreted as a sign of shifting loyalties or impending change.

Following the official trade, Jaylen Brown released a formal statement on social media to address the fans. “First and foremost, thank you to the Most High, even in the midst of adversity. I’m here with gratitude,” he wrote. “I’m still processing how this all went down. I’m excited and disappointed at the same time. I earned my respect from this city. I never asked for shortcuts or special treatment. And I simply showed up every day, put my head down, and accepted every challenge.”

“The relationships I built here, the battles we fought together, the championship we brought to this city. And the connection I shared with the fans, I’ll carry on with me,” he concluded.
