Judge Dismisses Tory Lanez and Raina Chassagne Divorce Case

A Los Angeles judge has dismissed the divorce case filed by Raina Chassagne against incarcerated singer Tory Lanez, effectively ending the legal proceeding without a final judgment on the couple’s marriage. The court’s decision to dismiss the case stems from a finding of insufficient activity to move the matter toward a final resolution, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. It is important to note that this dismissal does not confirm that Chassagne and Lanez have reconciled.

Chassagne initially filed for divorce in June 2024, less than a year after marrying Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson. In her filing, she cited irreconcilable differences and requested legal and physical custody of their son, Kai. The divorce proceedings occurred while Peterson was serving a 10-year prison sentence following his conviction in the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

In December 2022, a Los Angeles County jury convicted Peterson of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, as well as possessing a loaded and unregistered firearm and negligently discharging a firearm. Prosecutors argued that Peterson shot Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, following an argument in the Hollywood Hills. Peterson has consistently maintained his innocence and continues to challenge the conviction.

Family Dynamics During Incarceration

Despite the legal turmoil, Chassagne has remained active in facilitating contact between Peterson and their son. She has frequently taken Kai to visit his father in prison and has shared glimpses of these interactions on social media. Notably, Chassagne marked Father’s Day with throwback photographs of the family, underscoring their ongoing connection despite the complexities of the now-dismissed divorce case.

The court’s decision to terminate the case serves as a procedural closure rather than a substantive ruling on the couple’s marital status. Because the case failed to progress toward a final judgment, the court opted to dismiss it, leaving any future legal actions regarding their marriage to be handled in a separate proceeding.

As of now, representatives for Peterson have not issued a public statement regarding the dismissal, and counsel for Chassagne has remained silent on the matter. Peterson continues to serve his sentence while pursuing appeals related to his criminal conviction.
