Ranking Beyoncé “Cowboy Carter” Features: Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, & More

Beyoncé has officially released her eighth studio album, COWBOY CARTER. It is the second installment of a three-act trilogy following 2022’s Renaissance. COWBOY CARTER sees Beyoncé fully diving into the realm of country, tapping into her Texan roots. Prior to her latest release, she first ventured into the genre on “Daddy Lessons” from 2016’s Lemonade. The latest album’s lead singles “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” and “16 CARRIAGES” appear on the new 27-track album, of which Beyoncé handles the majority herself. There are, however, numerous guest appearances that contribute vocals throughout the tracklist. As we begin to digest her latest album, we are ranking Beyoncé’s COWBOY CARTER features from least to greatest. This list excludes those who speak on the interludes, such as Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Linda Martell, and Rumi Carter. Take a look at the list below.

5. “SPAGHETTII” & “SWEET ★ HONEY ★ BUCKIIN’” – Shaboozey

Featured on both “SPAGHETTII” and “SWEET ★ HONEY ★ BUCKIIN’” is hip hop and country artist Shaboozey. “SPAGHETTII” is easily the most rap-oriented song on the album, and Shaboozey assists Beyoncé in bridging the the two genres. However, his overall performance is nothing outstanding compared to other COWBOY CARTER guest features. The same can be said about Shaboozey’s appearance on “SWEET ★ HONEY ★ BUCKIIN’.” He lends his vocals to the first part of the song, which fuses country and Jersey club. Shaboozey’s guest features ensure vocal variety on the 27-track album, but they are not memorable in the grand scheme of the tracklist.

4. “BLACKBIIRD” – Tanner Adell, Brittany Spencer, Tiera Kennedy, & Reyna Roberts

image

COWBOY CARTER’s second song is one of a few different Beyoncé covers. She reimagines The Beatles’ “Blackbird,” enlisting Tanner Adell, Brittany Spencer, Tiera Kennedy, and Reyna Roberts as features on the song. The up-and-coming country artists get a moment to shine, especially Adell. Due to the song being a cover and its short runtime, the artists’ feature feels more like a brief solo than a complete collaboration. Their appearances may be short, but being a featured artist on a Beyoncé album is the ultimate cosign.

3. “LEVII’S JEANS” – Post Malone

image

Post Malone’s surprise feature on COWBOY CARTER is one of the album’s best collaborations. On “LEVII’S JEANS,” his voice sounds very comfortable over the mid-tempo guitar strumming. He also pushes himself vocally, which is a necessity for those who sing alongside Beyoncé. The collaboration feels very natural and works for both of their musical styles. With the two being in completely different artistic places earlier in their careers, now was the perfect moment for Post Malone and Beyoncé to sing together.

2. “JUST FOR FUN” – Willie Jones

image

Willie Jones’s feature on “JUST FOR FUN” might be brief, but he leaves quite the impression. An instant standout on COWBOY CARTER, his feature is its very own moment, especially when he and Beyoncé sing together. Their voices complement each other nicely, with the bass of Jones’s voice coinciding with Beyoncé’s deeper register. Willie Jones does not overstay his welcome on “JUST FOR FUN,” but his presence certainly enhances the track.

1. “II MOST WANTED” – Miley Cyrus

image

Easily the standout COWBOY CARTER feature is on “II MOST WANTED,” a beautiful duet between Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus. Over the course of her career, Cyrus has shown that country is her true calling, which “II MOST WANTED” reinforces. It is the style of music over which she sounds most comfortable and is able to showcase her vocal ability. Beyoncé’s smooth and overpowering voice, combined with Miley’s gentle and gruff tone, blend seamlessly as they sing with one another. While Beyoncé’s voice tends to vocally outshine anyone, their voices come together in country music. Miley Cyrus’s feature on “II MOST WANTED” is undoubtedly the most memorable and impressive feature on COWBOY CARTER. It feels like a true collaboration more than any other guest appearance.

Beyoncé Receives Praise From Country Singer Reyna Roberts For “Cowboy Carter” Feature

Beyoncé dropped her new studio LP, Cowboy Carter, today (March 29). The 27-track album features Black country artists like Reyna Roberts.

After Cowboy Carter hit DSPs at midnight ET, Reyna Roberts took to social media to share her thoughts about appearing on Beyoncé’s latest body of work. The “Stompin’ Grounds” performer offered high praise for Queen Bey.

“I am forever in AWE of you!! You have always been my biggest inspiration. My voice, music and art has all been shaped by you. Thank you for your greatness,” Reyna Roberts wrote about Beyoncé in an Instagram caption.

Beyoncé’s “Blackbiird” also features country music singer-songwriters Brittney Spencer, Tanner Adell and Tiera Kennedy. The record serves as a cover of 1968’s “Blackbird” by the Beatles.

In addition, Cowboy Carter includes contributions by Willie Nelson, Linda Martell, Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, and more. The Columbia Records-backed project has a run time of over 80 minutes.

Cowboy Carter, also known as Act II: Cowboy Carter, is the second installment in a suspected Beyoncé studio LP trilogy. Renaissance, aka Act I: Renaissance, came out in 2022.

Beyoncé’s seventh album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 332,000 first-week units. Renaissance won Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2023.

Beyonce Unleashes “Cowboy Carter” Featuring Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus, Post Malone & More: Fans React

Last night, Beyonce finally dropped her eagerly anticipated follow-up to Renaissance, Cowboy Carter. The project sees her fully embrace her country era, teaming up with some of the genre’s finest. Needless to say, fans are impressed, and sounding off on social media.

One highlight on the album is Beyonce and Miley Cyrus‘ collaboration, “II Most Wanted.” Since its release, the track has already reached No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes songs chart. Post Malone also makes a notable appearance on “Levii’s Jeans,” which has quickly become a fan favorite. Icons like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Linda Martell are also featured in interludes, an homage to some of the pioneers of country music.

Beyonce Delivers On Act II

Another major standout track is Beyonce’s cover of Parton’s 1973 hit, “Jolene.” She altered the structure of the song and changed up the lyrics, making this version totally her own. “Hey miss Honey B, it’s Dolly P. You know that hussy with the good hair you sing about?” Dolly says in an interlude before the song, referencing the explosive 2016 Lemonade track, “Sorry.”

Bey’s rendition also expands upon Parton’s “flaming locks of auburn hair” line, adding, “Just a hair of a different color but it hurts just the same.” She even takes things to the next level by issuing Jolene a “warning” instead of “begging” her to back off her man like in Parton’s original. Social media users are loving the project so far, and can’t wait to see her perform it live. Fans are especially eager to see a live Beyonce and Miley Cyrus duet, and a Tina Turner-inspired “Ya Ya” number.

Beyoncé Flips Dolly Parton’s Iconic Track: “You Don’t Want No Heat With Me, Jolene“

Beyoncé has delivered her highly anticipated Cowboy Carter album, and as fans hoped, it includes a much-requested remake of Dolly Parton’s iconic hit song, “Jolene.”

However, the superstar songstress put her own spin on the updated track. Whereas the original sees Parton begging the eponymous other woman not to take her man, Beyoncé warns Jolene, “Don’t come for my man.”

She also declares, “You don’t want no heat with me” before reflecting on her two-decades-long relationship.

“The games you’re playing, nothing new, so you don’t want no heat with me, Jolene,” Beyoncé croons. “We been deep in love for twenty years. I raised that man; I raised his kids. I know my man, better than he knows himself.”

Beyoncé then advises, “You don’t want this smoke,” before urging, “shoot your shot with someone else.

Last month, Dolly Parton congratulated Beyoncé for topping the Hot Country chart and praised her venture into country music.

“I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album,” she wrote on Instagram. “So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single.”

Parton also revealed she “can’t wait to hear the full album!”

The record-breaking Grammy Award winner dropped Act II: Cowboy Carter at midnight Friday (March 29). The 27-track project includes features from Post Malone and Miley Cyrus and a cameo from daughter Rumi on “Protector.”

Beyoncé also tapped several Black rising country music stars for the album, including Tanner Adell, Willie Jones and Shaboozey.  Stream the album below.

Beyoncé Returns to Rapping on New Song ‘Spaghettii’

Beyoncé may have just dropped a country album, but she’s spitting some serious bars on “Spaghettii” featuring Linda Martell and Shaboozey.

Beyoncé Raps on New Song “Spaghettii”

On Friday (March 29), Beyoncé returned with Cowboy Carter, her eighth studio album, and Act II of her three-act album release that started with Renaissance back in 2022. While the LP is very country and includes interludes from Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton, among others, “Spaghettii” finds Bey dropping some of the hardest bars of the year on the Swizz Beatz-produced track.

“I ain’t in no gang, but I got shooters and I bang-bang/At the snap of my fingers, I’m Thanos, da-na, da-na/And I’m still on your head, cornrows, da-na, da-na/They call me the captain, the catwalk assassin/When they know it’s slappin’, then here come the yappin’/All of this snitchin’, and all of this b***hin’/Just a fishin’ expedition, dumb admission/In the kitchen, cookin’ up them chickens/Extra leg, but I ain’t even tryna kick it,” she raps in part of the first verse.

She even gives a nod to her husband, Jay-Z: “They salty, they shoot me like Curry/One hand on my holster then pass it to Hova.”

This is of course not the first time Bey has shown off her rap skills. She previously dropped bars on 2014’s “Position,” 2016’s “Formation” and 2018’s “Apes**t,” just to name a few.

In addition, Beyoncé’s daughter Rumi Carter joins her for the track “Protector.”

Moreover, one of the standout moments on the album is Beyoncé’s rendition of Parton’s classic hit, “Jolene.” Following Parton’s interlude, Beyoncé’s soulful interpretation of the 1973 track serves as a powerful homage to the country music icon and adds a fresh perspective to the beloved song. The release of Cowboy Carter follows the surprise drop of singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” during the Super Bowl, building anticipation for the full album. Serving as the long-awaited Act II of Beyoncé’s 2022 project, Renaissance, the album represents a culmination of the singer’s exploration into the country genre.

Post Malone Joins Beyoncé on New Song ‘Levii’s Jeans’

Post Malone and Beyoncé come together in true Texas fashion for the new song “Levii’s Jeans.”

Beyoncé Collabs With Post Malone

On Friday (March 29), Beyoncé delivered her much-talked-about country (but not so country) album, Cowboy Carter. One of the songs that features a hip-hop connection is “Levii’s Jeans,” which finds Post Malone teaming up with Bey. It’s a fitting collaboration considering both artists hail from Texas: Beyoncé from Houston; Post Malone from Dallas, though he was born in Syracuse, N.Y. The track gives a nod to the denim brand made famous by cowboys everywhere.

While the singer has been rocking plenty of cowboy hats recently and topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with “Texas Hold ‘Em”  in February, Beyoncé insists Cowboy Carter is not a country album.

“This ain’t a Country album,” Beyoncé wrote. “This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album. This is act ii COWBOY CARTER, and I am proud to share it with y’all!”

The new LP serves as Act II to three-act album series, with Renaissance being the first.

Travis Scott Was Rumored to Appear on Beyoncé’s Album

Before Bey’s album arrived, rap fans thought Travis Scott was going to be one of the featured artists. She shared the cover art for the project on March 19, which ignited the talk shortly after. Fans thought they heard La Flame’s voice singing in a snippet of a song from the album that was used as promotion across Instagram. However, there’s no Travis feature on the final album.

Dolly Parton Urges Fans To Stream “Jolene” Ahead Of Beyonce’s “Cowboy Carter” Release

Legendary country icon Dolly Parton is embracing Beyoncé’s foray into the country genre with open arms. In fact, she seems to be embracing her with enthusiasm. Moreover, Parton was even one of the first to extend her congratulations to Beyonce for her historic Billboard No. 1 Country song. With Beyoncé’s looming presence on the horizon, not only in the realm of country music but also in terms of streaming dominance, Parton is showing she’s ready to share the spotlight. In a recent Instagram Stories post on Wednesday (March 27), ahead of the anticipated release of Cowboy Carter — a project that includes a revamped version of her timeless hit “Jolene” — the 78-year-old songstress urged her fans to revisit the original rendition of the song. “Play the original while you wait for @beyoncé’s ‘Jolene,'” she encouraged, alongside a repost of Queen Bey’s tracklist revelation.

Moreover, Parton’s move reflects a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of music consumption. While she remains a staple figure in country music history, she acknowledges the influence and appeal of contemporary artists like Beyoncé. It’s a recognition of the power of collaboration and cross-genres in the modern music scene. Moreover, Parton’s nod to Beyoncé suggests a willingness to embrace diversity and innovation within the country genre. As the boundaries between musical styles blur, artists are increasingly experimenting with new sounds and collaborations. Parton’s support of Beyoncé’s take on “Jolene” exemplifies this spirit of openness and exploration.

However, it’s not just about staying relevant in an ever-changing industry. Beyoncé’s remarkable feat regarding her recent number one has sparked discussions surrounding diversity and inclusivity within the traditionally conservative country music community. Moreover, Parton’s gesture highlights the power of social media in shaping musical narratives and driving engagement. With a simple Instagram post, she sparks excitement and anticipation among fans, igniting conversations and generating buzz around both her own music and Beyoncé’s upcoming release.

Moreover, as the music world eagerly awaits the arrival of Cowboy Carter and Beyoncé’s “Jolene,” Parton’s message serves as a reminder that while the times may change, the magic of music remains timeless. And in this ever-evolving landscape, there’s room for both legends of the past and trailblazers of the future to shine. Are you excited for this new music release?

Artists Fans Wanted To See On Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter”

Beyoncé is finally about to release her long-awaited eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter, and fans have already begun digging through the tracklist to choose their favorite sonic expressions. The album touts a staggering 26 tracks, with features such as Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Willie Nelson, and several rising Black country stars. Still, a few notable performers are missing, who would surely have pleased fans far and wide. Since Cowboy Carter was announced, the BeyHive has been in a frenzy to debate and discover which of their favorite artists are on the genre-blending project. Here are a few artists who are absent from the album that fans would surely have enjoyed.

This one is a bit of a long shot, but if anyone knows about crossing pop-rap and country tunes together in one harmonious swing, it’s Lil Nas X. The 24-year-old rapper has made no secret of his love for Beyoncé and a crossover event between the pair would have made for a perfect viral event. Lil Nas recently tweeted, “Beyoncé finna make me put my cowboy hat back on,” following the announcement of Cowboy Carter, prompting some fans to presume the pair had been in the studio together cooking up country-style jams. Unfortunately, it seems that Lil Nas X made this statement just from a fan perspective. Still, if there were an artist to demonstrate the value of a remix, it would be Lil Nas X, so fans can still hold out hope that the “Old Town Road” rapper will appear on a Beyoncé track eventually.

Beyoncé and Megan Thee Stallion are two iconic contemporaries who represent the finest artistry that Houston has to offer. The pair previously collaborated on Meg’s “Savage” remix, with Beyoncé specifically bringing some country flare to the rap record in lyrics like “I say left cheek, right cheek, drop it low, then swang / Texas up in this thang / Put you up on this game / Ivy Park on my frame, gang gang gang gang.” The pair have reunited on stage as recently as September 2023 to perform the chart-topping remix together, leading fans to hope they had been in the studio working on more new tunes for Cowboy Carter.

3. Taylor Swift

While Taylor Swift has moved away from her country roots in recent years, the global superstar is still beloved by many country listeners. Taylor Swift and Beyoncé are two of the world’s most massive artists, each touting an incredible catalog and a base of ravenous, dedicated fans. While the pair may be too busy to combine their star power, it certainly would have been a massive moment for Taylor Swift to appear on Cowboy Carter. Unfortunately, it looks like the Swifties and the BeyHive will be battling it out for who has the bigger and better album this year instead of joining forces to celebrate the biggest cross-genre collab in recent memory.

While Jay-Z is not particularly known for producing hits within the country genre, fans would definitely have appreciated a feature on Cowboy Carter. The hip hop icon has been with Beyoncé for over 20 years, spanning a long history of chart-topping collaborations on records such as “Crazy In Love,” “03′ Bonnie & Clyde,” “Lift Off,” and “Family Feud.” Despite Jay-Z not laying vocals on the new album, his fingerprints are likely all over the project behind the scenes. After all, the album does advertise the 54-year-old’s namesake right in its title.

1. Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar seemed like an easy choice to drop a feature verse on Cowboy Carter, especially after the PGLang rapper has repeatedly referenced the Compton Cowboys and dubbed himself Cowboy Kenny in recent tracks such as “The Hillbillies” with Baby Keem. Kendrick has also recently taken to rocking cowboy boots and cowboy hats in music videos and concert stops, making him an ideal candidate for crossing over into the country genre. Furthermore, Kendrick recently collaborated with Beyoncé on her 2023 record “America Has A Problem (Remix).” The track serves as the third collaboration between the pair and sees Kendrick referring to himself as an honorary member of the BeyHive.
