Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Signs Massive Deal With Converse And Named Creative Director

Shai Gilgeous Alexander has become a true superstar. Shai and the Oklahoma Thunder secured the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. They are set to face off against the winner of the final play-in game between New Orleans and Sacramento. The Thunder’s success can be largely attributed to Shai becoming a legitimate MVP candidate. He averaged 30 points per game and put on a show through the entire season. Additionally, Shai is positioned to be one of the new faces of the league, and his off-the-court business is reflecting that.

Shai cemented his partnership with Converse today with a massive deal. The extension is major news for Converse. Fans know Gilgeos-Alexander for his style off the court as well as his MVP play. Converse is betting on Shai’s overall persona to be the face of their basketball division. Brands like Nike, Adidas, and Converse dominate the basketball shoe economy. Above all, snatching up an MVP candidate is a big move. In any case, Shai signing with Converse is just another high point this season for Shai.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Creative Director Of Converse Basketball

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has signed a lucrative extension with Converse. Additionally, there will be a signature shoe, which will be released in 2025. Additionally, Converse has named SGA the Creative Director of Converse Basketball. He will be the face of the brand and, hopefully, for Converse, usher in a basketball renaissance for the company. It’s a gamble for Shai as well. He could have easily linked up with Nike or Adidas, but this is a move to build something unique. Hopefully, Converse and Shai can cook up a serious signature shoe.

Shai is preparing for a potential deep playoff run. Talking heads like Shannon Sharpe have downplayed the young Thunder team. There is something to prove on the court, and everyone is looking for Shai to rise to the occasion. SGA is in a three-horse race for MVP with Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic. Undoubtedly, A couple of pieces of hardware for Shai would be a major boost for himself and Converse. In any case, the deal is a major milestone for Gilgeous-Alexander and a sign of many things to come.

Jermaine Dupri Claims AI Music Generator Is “Disrespectful” To Artists

Jermaine Dupri knows talent when he hears it. The producer has worked with some of the most popular artists of the last few decades, including Mariah Carey and Usher. He’s also a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, which is a testament to his musical versatility. It’s for these reasons and more that Dupri is upset with the current state of the industry. During a recent interview with AllHipHop, the producer said that he was “disgusted” by the advent of the AI music generator Udio. In his estimation, the generator should be boycotted by real artists.

Udio is an AI music generator that allows users to create a song within 40 seconds. It does not require knowledge of musical scales or instruments. Dupri believes the low barrier for entry is an insult to those who had dedicated time to mastering their craft. “N***as that’s been playing music they whole life that take piano lessons, keyboard lessons, whatever, guitar lessons,” he said. “We’re allowing a company of people that are probably not musicians to say, ‘We making an app so everybody and anybody can make music and be a music virtuoso’.” Furthermore, the producer points out that Udio could hurt the financial earnings of artists.

Jermaine Dupri Thinks Udio Will Hurt Music

Jermaine Dupri criticized former So So Def affiliate Chris Lyons for his involvement with Udio, and likened the music generator to the lack of music regulation on TikTok. “I ain’t understood this for a long time,” he admitted. “It’s starting to be more apparent now. It’s the same reason that [Universal Music Group CEO] Lucian [Grainge] pulled the plug on TikTok. That’s what I’m saying. I don’t understand why we keep allowing this s**t to happen.” The resentment on Dupri’s end largely stems from the fact that those pushing Udio are not part of the music business.

“Why do we keep having or keep allowing people from different backgrounds, people from different walks of life, come in our business?”, he asked the AllHipHop interviewer. “You don’t do this to the NBA. They don’t do this to football. They don’t do this to no business because the business don’t allow this.” Dupri’s comments about AI could not have come at a better time. Fake AI diss tracks have run rampant in the last few weeks, especially in relation to the ongoing Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud. Dupri may have a point.

Drake’s Rap Beefs Stem From Alleged Co-ownership Of Gamma Music, Joe Budden Says

Joe Budden might not be hitting the studio like he used to, but the podcaster still has plenty of industry intel he’s happy to discuss on his show. Lately, a lot of the 43-year-old’s content has been focusing on the drama unfolding amongst the men of rap. Many are curious why Drake suddenly became public enemy number one to former collaborators like Rick Ross and Kendrick Lamar. According to Budden, the reason might be a lot more complicated than it seems on the surface.

“The labels got s**t running through Drake, I’m telling you,” the “Pump It Up” hitmaker alleged on Tuesday’s (April 16) episode of his podcast. “We’re going to find out. One of these ni**as is going to spill the beans soon, I’m telling you. There’s something here that we don’t know enough about yet,” Budden said after a co-host mentioned the father of one’s alleged ties to Gamma. XXL notes that the new company was founded in 2023 by former Apple executive Larry Jackson and record executive Ike Youssef. Rick Ross, French Montana, Sexyy Red, and Usher are all artists on the platform’s roster.

Joe Budden Suggests That Drake Is a Part-Owner of Gamma

“I think Drake owns some of Gamma,” The Joe Budden Podcast creator told viewers. In the past, the rapper-turned-media personality speculated that the 6ix God is getting paid for showing support to Sexyy, which supports this theory. Additionally, it could explain some of the tension brewing with Montega and Rozay.

At this point, it’s hard to keep up with all the artists who seem to be airing out their issues with Drake. Rick Ross and Kendrick Lamar are the most obvious, but there’s also speculation that his fellow Canadian, The Weeknd, was singing some shade on Metro Boomin and Future‘s We Still Don’t Trust You. Read our timeline of their drama at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Joe Budden Thinks Drake Co-Owns New Music Company Gamma

Joe Budden thinks Drake possibly being the co-owner of new music company Gamma might be the root of Drizzy’s beef with rappers.

Drake Co-Owns Gamma?

While several rappers have recently formed like Voltron to try and take Drake down, speculation has run rampant about the root of rappers’ animosity with the 6 God. On the latest episode on The Joe Budden Podcast, which aired on Tuesday (April 16), Joe and crew talked about possible reasons for the beef.

“The labels got s**t running through Drake, I’m telling you,” Joe insists in the video clip below. “We’re going to find out. One of these n***as is going to spill the beans soon, I’m telling you.”

“There’s something here that we don’t know enough about yet,” Joe adds after one of his cohosts brings up Drake’s possible ties to Gamma.

Gamma was formed in 2023, by former Apple executive Larry Jackson and record executive Ike Youssef. The roster of artists includes Rick Ross, French Montana, Sexyy Red and Usher.

“I think Drake owns some of Gamma,” Joe says.

Joe previously surmised Drake is getting paid to promote Sexyy Red, which would lean into his theory. It might also explain Drake’s issues with Rick Ross and French Montana. Ross’ joint album with Meek Mill, Too Good to Be True, was released through the company last year. French’s Mac & Cheese 5 was also distributed through the company earlier this year. That album features the “Splash Brothers” song that rap fans think Drake allegedly sent the cease-and-desist letter for, which Ross revealed on his Drake diss track “Champagne Moments.”

“I think most of my Drake intel today comes from my love of escorts,” Joe said. “I’m not trying to be funny.”

“The escorts just always know,” Joe continued. “The escorts are ground level to it all. The escorts are the CIA of the subway system.”

Busta Rhymes Reveals 2Pac Once Wrote Seven Songs To One Beat During Studio Session

It goes without saying that working alongside 2Pac in the studio must have been a pretty rewarding experience. According to Busta Rhymes, however, it wasn’t always so enjoyable. During a recent appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, the NYC-born performer recalled one particularly notable session with the late icon, after he had returned home from Atlanta where he was accused of shooting an off-duty cop.

“When ‘Pac got back from [Atlanta], ‘Pac became super [paranoid] because he felt like the cops were out to kill him no matter what state he was in,” Busta Rhymes explained. “He had gotten a wild arsenal. He kept an MPC beat machine in the crib and I literally watched him write about seven songs to the same Isley Brothers sample. Each song was about different sh*t. I couldn’t understand that.

Busta Rhymes Was Sick Of Hearing The Same Beat

As one would imagine, Busta Rhymes eventually grew sick of hearing the same thing over and over. By the end of the session, he says 2Pac had written a whopping seven new songs to the same beat. “After a while, I get tired of hearing the motherf*cking beat,” he described. “I don’t wanna hear that beat to write no more songs to it. I write the one song to it, I’m off the damn beat. He wrote seven songs to the same beat!”

Too Short also recently recalled 2Pac’s speedy songwriting skills in an interview with HipHopDX. “He wrote rhymes as fast as he could write words,” he said. “I don’t how his mind was working to be able to make such prolific statements in a rhyme and then go in and put a pattern to it. And it really wasn’t like he was going in the booth and f***ing up,” Too Short also added. “He’d just go in there and spit it.” What do you think of Busta Rhymes revealing that he once saw 2Pac write seven different songs to one beat? Are you surprised that he got sick of hearing it? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Paramount Boss Says Kendrick Lamar & “South Park” Team’s Move Will Create “Fireworks”

Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins announced the release date for Kendrick Lamar’s movie with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Robbins revealed the film is heading to theaters in 2025 on Thursday (April 11).

“I’m excited to announce that we’re going into production this summer on a [comedy] from the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker,” Robbins said. “This script is one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read, and it’s certain to create some fireworks when it hits theaters on July 4th, 2025.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will not be a musical. Robbins didn’t disclose the title of the live-action comedy.

Longtime South Park contributor Vernon Chatman wrote the script for the film. Kendrick and his pgLang co-founder Dave Free serve as producers along with Stone and Parker.

“On behalf of Paramount Pictures and the wider ViacomCBS family, we look forward to ushering in the first theatrical collaboration from these creative visionaries, and galvanizing audiences worldwide around a powerful storytelling experience,” Robbins said in 2022.

Paramount unveiled the release date of Kendrick’s first feature film while he’s arguably the biggest topic of conversation in Hip-Hop. K. Dot set the rap world ablaze by dissing Drake and J. Cole on Future and Metro Boomin’s song “Like That” in March. J. Cole responded with a diss track titled “7 Minute Drill” in April. Cole quickly regretted releasing the song, apologizing for it at his annual Dreamville Festival.

“That’s the lamest s### I ever did in my f###### life,” J. Cole said regarding “7 Minute Drill.”

Kendrick didn’t publicly comment on Cole’s apology. Drake hasn’t dropped a musical response to Kendrick’s diss, but the Canadian star dismissively reacted to “Like That” at a concert and on social media.
