Jay Z and Beyoncé are not the only famous musical parents out here generating revenue for their children. Artists like Nas and DJ Khaled also participate in giving their children a start at life at such a young age. Parents in the musical realm can list their children in production or writing credits in order to receive revenue streams. The Carter’s seven-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter will not only have the chance to be listed among the world’s best artists, entertainers, and producers, she will also be rewarded for her contributions to “Brown Skin Girl.” 

On Sunday evening (Nov. 17) Blue Ivy won the prestigious Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the 2019 Soul Train Awards for “The Lion King” featured melanin love song that highlighted Black women and girls.

“Brown Skin Girl” was released back in July as part of “The Lion King: The Gift” soundtrack. The track features vocals from Beyoncé, Guyanese SAINt JHN, Nigerian singer WizKid, and Blue Ivy. Blue Ivy’s vocals can be heard at the beginning and end of the track as she sings the chorus: “Brown skin girl, your skin just like pearls, the best thing in the world, never trade you for anybody else.”

The influential hit went viral over the summer after many Black women and girls partcipated in uploading their self-appreciation videos, many of which were posted to both Beyoncé and her mom, Tina Knowles-Lawson’s Instagram accounts. Having not finished elementary school yet, Blue Ivy has already started making her list of accomplishments.
