With Kanye West, Dame Dash & Justice League Cosigns, Hassan Is Ready For The World

Hassan’s wave began much like a pebble in a docile lake. The minute stone, metaphorically speaking, is now making waves in the music industry with his boundary-pushing collaborations and thought-provoking compositions. From working alongside icons like Kanye West and Dame Dash to producing beats for rising stars such as DeJ Loaf and Saweetie, Hassan’s influence on contemporary music is undeniable. Nowadays, Hassan pushes his creative process farther and and discussed his most collaboration with The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League.

“Feelings,” a track with extreme emotional depth, was originally crafted by chopping up a Nina Simone sample, but in an effort to elevate the production, Hassan enlisted the expertise of Erik “Rook” Ortiz. Rook is a globally known producer and founding member of The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, the production team known for working with Drake, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, Raekwon, Conway The Machine and a host of others.

“J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League just have that luxury sound, you know what I mean?” Hassan said. “It felt like superhero music, like theme music, and for this joint ‘Feelings.’ I made the initial beat. I chopped up the Nina Simone song ‘Feelings.’ And I chopped it up and I had that piano part and I just had that loop. And then I sent it to Rook [of the Justice League] and I was just like, man, please Rook, if you could, man, if you feel the inspiration, if you feel the vibe, I would love for you to touch it and really bring it to that superhero level.”

And that is exactly what happened. The song, a few days old, has thousands of views already. His partnership with Dame Dash was forged during a another serendipitous encounter in Wyoming during a session with Kanye West. West is a source of inspiration and admiration for Hassan, who recalled playing West his album.

“Working with Ye is…it’s always a pinch me moment,” Hassan expressed still in awe. “I was playing him the ‘anything is possible’ beat. He was just mumbling. Like this line, this top line. And it’s like, man, we took that and I went and got a choir to sing that top line that he was doing. So on the record, he’s like mumbling the top line. And then I have the choir come in.”

[embedded content]

Born in America, Hassan’s music is deeply rooted in his cultural heritage and personal experiences. Themes of personal exile and religion are reoccuring in his work, a reflection of a Muslim father and Catholic mother. “Feelings” offers listeners a glimpse into his upbringing and relationships.

“I draw a lot from personal experiences, especially my relationship with my mother and the struggles she has faced,” Hassan shared. “Her trauma has deeply impacted me and reflects in my music, adding layers of vulnerability and authenticity to my work.”

Hassan’s artistry is to provoke thought and ignite conversation through his music. With Hip-Hop in flux, he challenges the status quo in the way true artists do.

As Hassan continues to push forward, it appears that ripple initiated by the pebble will continue evolving into a tsunami.

B.G. Shares Heartfelt Message To Fans After His Arrest

B.G. appeared to be back on the right track when he was released from prison last year after spending over a decade behind bars. He quickly linked up with some of his old friends to work on collabs, perform, and more. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse last week, when the rapper was arrested for an alleged parole violation.

Reportedly, he must obtain written approval before pursuing self-employment, which he didn’t. He’s also not supposed to be “associating unnecessarily with” convicted felons, which he’s accused of. Aside from working alongside Gucci Mane on Choppers & Bricks, he recently joined Boosie Badazz onstage for a reunion in Vegas.

B.G. Won’t Let Bump In The Road Stop Him

Shortly after the news broke, Boosie got online to ask fans for their support. “I’mma need all my supporters, all rap supporters to get behind and try to stop what’s going on with B.G.,” he said in a clip. “These people are trying to lock B.G. up for rapping, bro,” he says in a clip. “This gotta stop, bro. We’ve got to fight for our people, bro… Wrong is wrong.” Now, B.G. himself has taken to social media to share a message with his followers, revealing that while a bump in the road may slow him down, he won’t let it stop him.

“It’s never been Easy being Geezy, but I’m Real ,so I make it look that way,” his post begins. “I always thrive under pressure and fight harder when my back against the wall…I came too far to give up or lay down..the real gonna keep riding with me,and my haters gonna keep hating on me…I’m here for it all.” What do you think of B.G. getting arrested for collaborating with convicted felons? B.G. Gets Arrested For Performing With Boosie Badazz

B.G. was finally released from prison a few months ago after a 12-year stay, but unfortunately, the performer could be going back soon. Earlier this week, his friend OG Freeze hopped online to share the news, revealing that it all stemmed from a recent reunion with Boosie Badazz. He joined the Louisiana-born artist for a show in Las Vegas this month.

“The man [has] come home, doing his little thing, he ain’t bothering nobody… Just trying to get his life back on track,” OG Freeze explained. “He ain’t doing nothing different than no other rapper.” Reportedly, one of the conditions of B.G.’s supervised release is that he must “obtain prior written approval” before self-employment, which he didn’t. B.G. is also barred from “associating unnecessarily with” convicted felons such as Boosie or Gucci Mane, whom he recently collaborated with on Choppers & Bricks.

OG Freeze Gives Fans An Update On B.G.

He was arrested for violating his parole on Wednesday (March 27), and released shortly after. He could spend even more time behind bars, however, as he has a federal court hearing to go over the violation in New Orleans scheduled sometime soon. OG Freeze isn’t the only one of B.G.’s friends coming to his defense following his arrest, however.

Boosie also recently hopped online to encourage fans to stand behind B.G. “I’mma need all my supporters, all rap supporters to get behind and try to stop what’s going on with B.G. These people are trying to lock B.G. up for rapping, bro,” he says in a clip. “This gotta stop, bro. We’ve got to fight for our people, bro… Wrong is wrong.”

B.G. Faces Possible Return to Prison After Violating Parole

After being released from a 12-year prison sentence seven months ago, B.G. could possibly return to prison due to a recent arrest for probation violations.

B.G. Could Return to Prison for Parole Violations

According to a report from The Guardian, published on Saturday (March 30), B.G. could possibly return to prison for violating his parole with his performance alongside Boosie BadAzz at a Last Vegas concert this past February. Last Wednesday (March 27), the former Hot Boys rapper was arrested and then released on his own recognizance in Las Vegas, where he currently resides.

On Thursday (March 28), B.G.’s friend OG Freeze jumped on his YouTube channel to update fans on B.G.’s well-being. In the video, which can be viewed below, Freeze revealed that B.G. was released from jail but faces a federal court date in New Orleans on his parole violation.

“The man [has] come home, doing his little thing, he ain’t bothering nobody…just trying to get his life back on track,” he said in the clip. “He ain’t doing nothing different than no other rapper.”

OG Freeze also showed a text message on his smartphone screen that he said was from Dorsey and read in part: “I just got out of jail.”

How Did B.G. Violate His Parole?

The Guardian reported that a federal probation officer stated in court documents that one of the conditions governing B.G. supervised release from prison was to “obtain prior written approval…before entering self-employment.” B.G., real name Christopher Noel Dorsey, hadn’t done so before performing with Boosie at a Las Vegas show on Feb. 8.

Additionally, since Boosie himself is a convicted felon, the two rappers performing together was a violation of a federal supervised release statute that prevents parolees from “associating unnecessarily with” convicted felons. The Guardian also reported that B.G.’s probation officer wasn’t happy about Choppers & Bricks, his joint project with Gucci Mane, who is also a convicted felon.

In September of 2023, B.G. was released from prison after serving over a decade following his guilty plea to federal weapons charges stemming from his 2009 arrest.

XXL has reached out to B.G. for comment.

Best Tiny Desk Hip-Hop Performances Ranked

NPR Music’s Tiny Desk series has been providing performance gems for over a decade now. Since the platform sparked off its intimate performances at a desk inside the media organization in Washington, D.C., plenty of major league musicians have graced the stage—or office corner in this case. Each generation of talent, from the Wu-Tang Clan to Roddy Ricch, have performed roughly 20-minute live shows that pull in the viewer as if they’re seated right in front of the artist.

For rappers who typically use heavy instrumentation in their songs, playing with a live band can create a magical experience. Take for example Anderson .Paak‘s use of that approach. He obviously bodied his 2016 Tiny Desk performance with The Free Nationals, which surprises no one. Another notable example is Mac Miller’s 2018 performance, which captures his transmissible charisma and further epitomizes that he grew into an actual artist, rather than just a rapper. May he rest in power.

Sometimes, the spotlight is taken off of vocals, too. Mega producer Zaytoven comes to mind off rip. In addition to his solid showcase with Gucci Mane, Zay’s solo performance in 2019 had the passion of a Sunday church service in the South: the ones where everyone has a paper fan that they’re waving at their face to cool off. Future was supposed to appear for that Tiny Desk event, but since he was a no-show, Zaytoven, with a band backing him, performed instrumental versions of some songs he produced for the rapper.

Elsewhere and on the note of classic material, one of the most classic Tiny Desk performances in NPR Music history belongs to T-Pain. In 2014, the Florida rapper went viral for this performance because people were weirdly shocked that he could sing without Auto-Tune. Related to rap and R&B, Usher‘s recent performance in 2022 has “legendary” written all over it as well, from the execution of the sounds to the memes that came from the visuals.

Though there are many to sift through, XXL watched them all and highlighted the very best of NPR Music’s Tiny Desk performances of the last 10 years. Tap in below to see where they rank against one another. And shout-out to all of the dope artists who take part in creating these moments.

Method Man’s Daughter Chey performs With Trina After Launching Rap Career

Method Man’s daughter Chey plans on “taking over” after performing with Trina following the recent launch of her rap career.

Cheyenne Smith, who goes by the name Chey, was Trina’s guest at 97.9 WJLB’s TakeOver 5 concert at Detroit’s Fox Theatre over the weekend. She performed her drill-inspired single “Hair and Nails,” in front of a packed crowd.

“I always like to show love to people that I feel like is the next inspiration,” Trina said, introducing Chey to the stage. She was in good company, performing on the bill alongside Gucci Mane, Rick Ross, Plies and Juvenile, in addition to Trina.

Chey took to Instagram with a montage of clips from her night, including a snippet of Trina backstage complimenting her new single.
