THE WEEKLY TOP 5 VIDEOS [EPISODE 22 ]
Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 5 Videos. This is a segment where we will be looking at some exceptional visuals from various acts from around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades and through the 90s and 2000s, it has really taken flight from multi-million budget music videos, to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but rather highlight some of the creative visuals that pop up on our radar.
AnQMusic – “City Of Dreams”
AnQMusic opens up this week’s list with the visuals for the Oun-P assisted record titled “City Of Dreams.” As the title suggests, the duo aims to bring us deep into the borough where hip-hop was born, the Bronx to be exact. Oun-P sets it off with extremely descriptive lines that detail the good, bad, and ugly sides of BX. The visual is well crafted and makes use of performance shots of both parties as they fully represent their city to the fullest.
Stockz x Doeman – “Not Many”
Stockz and Doeman come through with the visuals for his song “Not Many.” The backdrop has a somber feel and the verses have a blend of bravado and some hustle game for listeners to learn from. The visual has a moody and cinematic feel and makes use of performance scenes and also the daily activities of both emcees.
730FM & PHNTM MNCE – “VOICES”
730FM and PHNTM MNCE caught our eyes with “VOICES.” The Cleveland, OH rap artists take listeners deep into the mix of the action with hard-hitting bars and reflective lines. The visual makes use of several glitch like effects and straightforward performance scenes.
Charlotte Jane – “10 Percent”
Emerging singer/songwriter Charlotte Jane makes her entry with the expressive visual for her song “10 Percent.” The song dwells on the dynamics of a one-sided relationship with Charlotte who has had enough and decides to leave for her own sanity. The pop-infused soulful tune is quite engaging and filled with relatable songwriting as well. The visual concept captures her expressive performances, stylish choreography and a retro-tinged aesthetic that keeps viewers locked from start to finish.
Nina, Soul, and Sax – “Welcome To the Metaverse”
Nina, Soul, and Sax close the list with the animated visuals for their song titled “Welcome To the Metaverse.” The bouncy tune taps into Afrofuturism and the technology of the Metaverse and has a pop appeal to it. The visual was directed and filmed in VR by VR filmmaker Steven “Stovert” Robinson, with the song produced by Gerald “Soul Gee” Stevens and Steven “SirSaxy” Strouble.
