LG (Team Genius) explore systematic racism on “YBM” [video]
Indie rapper LG caught our attention with her anthemic single titled “YBM” which is an acronym for Young Black Militia. The record is built on a thumping backdrop ripe with cinematic synths and sparse crunchy drums which adds fire to LG’s insightful and thought-provoking lyrics. The rapper unapologetically tackles the issues of racism and police brutality in the US of A and shares her unfiltered thoughts on the situation.
The visual is quite expressive and captures the youthful energy of the rapper and her stance when it comes to her people. The visual blends carefully crafted choreography set pieces and fiery performance shots that lend their strengths to the topic at hand. LG adds that the song is the black anthem and it speaks to black excellence in all shapes, forms, and sizes.
LG is a Philly raised rapper who gained her musical tutelage under her parents after they encouraged her to learn the drums and piano at a very young age. When she turned 12, her mother bought her a copy of Protools’ Digi Design Box and a [Apple] G5 tower and LG never looked back since.
