Mariah Carey Unveils New Era With “MC16” Tease & New Music Snippet

Mariah Carey pulled the curtain back on new music Monday (June 2) with a cryptic teaser for what appears to be her long-awaited 16th studio album, casually dubbed “MC16,” and a snippet of a track that suggests a new sound.

The Grammy-winning singer posted a short video showing herself stepping into a sleek black convertible, flipping the radio dial to a file labeled “T:D_MC16.mp3.”

A beat kicks in, followed by Carey’s voice saying, “To show my appreciation for your support, thank you, DJs.” She captioned the clip with a simple question: “What’s your type?”

The teaser, which hints at a dancefloor-friendly direction, marks Carey’s first preview of new material since her 2018 album Caution.

While no official title or release date has been confirmed, the “MC16” label has fans and industry watchers assuming it’s her next full-length project.

The deluxe reissue features 45 tracks on vinyl and 40 tracks digitally, including remixes, unreleased material, and collaborations. Among the highlights is the long-awaited official release of “When I Feel It,” a track previously held back due to sample clearance issues.

The expanded edition also includes fresh remixes from KAYTRANADA and Esentrik, giving the 2005 classic a modern spin.

No further details have been shared about collaborators or a tracklist for “MC16,” but the teaser suggests Mariah Carey is leaning into a new era.

Carey’s last studio album featuring original music, Caution, was released in 2018.
