Bar$ share debut single “Trippin”

Emerging rapper Bar$ shares debut single “Trippin” which sees him repurposing a song he wrote back in 2013 with A$AP Jermz on the production tip. On this new version, he makes use of live instrumentation layered over a smooth bouncy backdrop while he spits bars detailing the current state of the world.

From being a student of a James Brown Band member, to music award nominations and touring nationally, Bar$ has one of the most unique stories to tell. Born in Fort Hood, Texas in 1992 and raised in Kinston, North Carolina, Bar$ was introduced to hip hop at an early age by his uncle who was releasing mixtapes and working with many Texas legends at the time such as Trae The Truth, Chingo Bling and others. After joining band in middle school, Bar$ officially began his musical journey learning the trumpet as his first instrument. Taught by Dick Knight, former member of the James Brown Band, Otis Redding, & Gladys Knight, he would join a 5 piece Jazz band with Mr. Knight and traveled around North Carolina playing shows. After joining a hip hop collective shortly after, originating from New York, he started producing tracks on free downloaded programs from the internet until receiving his first MPC drum machine as a gift from his father. Compact discs were immediately replaced with vinyl records as Bar$ began crafting his style of NY influenced sampled beats alongside his lyrical bleeding pen. Cyphering at the park, battle rapping at the lunch table and bus rides home, this craft blossomed rapidly. At the end of his 8th grade year, his first performance would come in the form of a pep rally for the end of grade testing with over 800 of his fellow classmates in attendance. That’s when the dream started to become a tangible reality.

Fast forward a few years later and Bar$ started releasing mixtapes in high school with students and teachers both invested equally into his passion. One of his teachers even hired him and his group to perform at a private party hosted by a local DJ. Bar$ then started touring independently around North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. After high school, him and his team would go on to open for some of the biggest acts in the industry at the time such as Ace Hood, Gorilla Zoe, Travis Porter and other events hosted by the local radio station Kiss FM. From there he would travel city to city performing at major showcases, live on air radio interviews and headlining small clubs.

In 2012, Bar$ was featured on MTV artists and various other blog placements with the stage name “True Bars”. That same year, he began stepping back as an artist and started focusing solely on his production for other artists. After landing major placements with G-Unit & Hypnotized Minds artists, he was nominated for “Producer of the Year” at the 2013 Carolina Music Awards. Soon after, his passion for playing instruments took over as he began touring with multiple bands on the East Coast as a keyboard player until 2020. Now, he’s back where it all started and better than ever. You can expect to hear a lot of noise coming from Bar$ as he dominates the underground hip hop scene with his first official debut “Trippin” releasing in September of 2021.
