Ivy Sole shares retro-styled visuals for her single “Call Me” [Video]
Ivy Sole is back with their third single “Call Me” which also comes with an accompanying visual. The track produced by Ethan Tomas and Sole has a bouncy vibe and sees the rapper blending her rapping and singing styles in a seamless fashion. As for the premise, it’s told from the point of view of their stepfather and Sole themselves in alternating verses, the song’s hook – “Call me, so I can make excuses for ya…” – acts as a guiding ethos, able to be read both as an invitation to provide an alibi or act as an accomplice and to give undeserved grace in interpersonal relationships.
The video, directed by Sole alongside Imani Dennison, is a rich trove of visual references from the cinema of the early ’00s, alongside the retro-Afrofuturism exhibited by legendary artists Missy Elliot and Busta Rhymes, in reflection of the sights and sounds that accompanied the protagonist’s stepfather’s prison stretch and Sole’s formative years.
“Call Me” is the third single from their highly anticipated forthcoming new album CANDID which will be released via Les Fleurs Music
