J The Exodus delivers the new “Anthem”

South London-based singer-songwriter and rapper J The Exodus got into music at an early age, although prior to that he was into dancing. He then joined his church and school choirs which afforded him the chance to infuse hip-hop elements into his singing repertoire. He then formed a group Extreme Impact, performing in various competitions such as the XLP Arts Showcase where they were consecutive winners. This was followed up by a performance slot on the ‘Europe Stage’ at the ‘Queen’s Golden Jubilee’ in Hyde Park in front of thousands when they won by the BBC Music Live school arts competition. Between 2012 and 2017, he released two EPs From Darkness Came Light and Heart’s Desire and also took part in the Mobo Unsung competition in 2015. In 2021 J reached the semi-finals of The Voice UK initially being selected by Anne-Marie and later being stolen by coach Olly Murs.
His latest single “Anthem” sees him collaborating with renowned UK producer RGEN who laces him with an epic and cinematic backdrop for him to paint a vivid picture of his life as a black man growing up in not-so-stellar circumstances but still coming out unscathed. He also focuses on real-time issues ranging from systemic racism and the current socio-politic climate in the UK.

The visual for the song is directed by filmographer/director Drew Cox who blends performance shots with cinematic aesthetics. The themes and motifs run parallel with J’s intense performance and lyrics and keeps the viewers locked in from start to finish.
