James An shares two singles “Mia Wallace” and “Sweet truth”
Emerging Korean rapper James An makes his entry on TWIB with a double release made up of songs “Mia Wallace” and “Sweet truth”. Two songs that showcase his versatility as a rapper who blends personal stores with a healthy dose of bravado
The first cut “Mia Wallace” is inspired by Uma Thruman’s character from the classic Pulp Fiction flick. Over a soulful and somber soundscape, James talks about a woman who is under the thumb of her rich hubby and she’s trying to weave through the madness of the world. In “Sweet truth”, James employs a laidback melodic flow and delivers a heartfelt performance ripe with evocative lyrics that dive into the way of the world and how we treat each other.
Growing up in Korea, Canada, and the United States, James An is a rapper who writes lyrics about topics ranging from racism and societal norms to daily life and conversation. James’ introduction to rap started when he received the CDs of rappers like Drunken Tiger and Dynamic Duo, Korean rappers who successfully confronted stereotypes about hip hop in Korea in the early 2000s.
He is also preparing to enter another season of the wildly popular Korean rap competition show “Show Me the Money” for its 11th season this fall. With diverse influences, experiences, and identities all represented in James’ music, he is above all a rapper who tells his own stories, never afraid to veer away from any topic as he makes sense of his world through rap.
