KyEhLay makes time for ‘Arrangements Vol. 1’

After sharing his single “Arrangements‘ a while back with us, educator/rapper KyEhLay returns with his full-length project entitled Arrangements Vol. 1. The body of work is comprised of 12 songs that dig deep into his life and showcase his knack for profound lyricism, relatable topics, and engaging soundscapes to match.

The project opens up with the upbeat “Custom Finish” which sets the tone with the bravado-laden style and impassioned flow. KyEhLay runs through his experiences and daily struggles as he slowly finds his footing. On “Code Switch” he reflects on his background and the things that make him tick from his Haitian roots and the need to code-switch depending on the environment he is in. The track is followed by the previously released “Arrangements” and “Disappear home.” The former is a candid discussion on how skewed the educational system is and the disconnection between teachers and students while the latter dives into finding inner peace wherever home is. In “Freeze Time” he teams up with Yama for a reflective and somber collaboration that takes us through time and the many events that occur. In “pedaled rose,” KyEhLay takes time to pay respect to some of his deceased family members. Over a soulful and somewhat moody backdrop, he kicks bars around the topic of life, loss, and the mortality of us all. On the piano-laden “moon hud” he switches his flow into a double cadence peppered with insightful bars. The final cut titled  “(move) uncomplicated” is a song about growth and progression, with each verse, he details a handful of things he learned on the way from rap, political struggle, dynamics of capitalism, racism, and even his own mental health. The record is profound and offers listeners a snapshot of who KyEhLay really is so it’s a solid way to close out the project.
