Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 5 Videos. This is a segment where we will be looking at some exceptional visuals from various acts from around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades and through the 90s and 2000s, it has really taken flight from multi-million budget music videos, to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but rather highlight some of the creative visuals that pop up on our radar.

 

 

 

 

TrenchBaby Rich – “Really Doin’ It”

Brooklyn, NY artist TrenchBaby Rich kicks off this week’s visual list with “Really Doin’ It.”  A bravado-laden cinematic track that sees Trenchbaby Rich in his element as he breaks down his street credentials for the naysayers and haters. Shot and edited by RichVision Films, who makes use of performance shots and a handful of effects to remove the monotony. He keeps it straightforward with the cut scenes and seamless transitions as well.

MadFlo Jr – “Ghosts”

Next up is MadFlo Jr whose new single “Ghosts” details the inner struggles of a man and the ghost within. The track is reflective and sees him asking many questions about his life and shortcomings. The visual follows the theme of the track and follows the raper going through the emotions as he battles his conscience while seeking inner peace.

YUNG Citizen – “Wake Up”

YUNG Citizen‘s newest single “Wake Up” is a motivational and uplifting track that is much needed in these gloomy times. The visual was directed and shot by Jacob McCall and Joshaun Anderson respectively follows the daily activities of the rapper as he rises up to the task with renewed energy for success.

 

 

 

 

Montae Harri$ – “Saint Regis”

Montae Harri$ takes time to reminisce on the good times in his single “Saint Regis.”  Backed by a smooth guitar-laden backdrop, he runs through a turbulent falling out with some close friends while appreciating the lessons learned in order to become a better person.  The visual shot by MACH5MONTAE using an iPhone is quite remarkable and looks pretty crisp. From the performance shots, special effects, and cut scenes, nothing looks out of place here.

 

 

Pause The Day – “FOLLOW”

Pause The Day helps close the list with the visuals for his self-produced single “FOLLOW.” An insightful piece that dives into the concept of war in different aspects. With the constant flux of changes in the way humans live, the idea of peace looks good on paper but in reality, it’s a totally different thing. Armed with his mellow vocals and melodic style, he takes listeners on an insightful journey into finding true peace and unity. This song is also an ode to his idea of the Spilligion project by Spillage Village; “We all one under God. We all bleed the same blood. No more division because ‘It takes a village.”. The visual directed by Sumit Saikia for Humming Bird Production is pretty eclectic and makes use of performance shots and several visual motifs that reinforce the message of unity.
