Hillbrow, Johannesburg-based indie rapper/producer Dopey opens up this week’s list with the visuals for his track “Anxiety.” The self-produced track has a moody and reflective feel that peppers Dopey’s evocative lyrics that center around his own personal struggle as an independent artist trying to find his footing in the game.

Straight out of the South of France comes indie rapper 33% who makes his entry on our list with this moody single titled “Altérité.” “Altérité” is taken from his debut 7 track EP, ACRIMONIEUX, which blends his personal tales with samples from the classic film Fight Club.

Xandria Cross – “ILL”

 

Xandria Cross‘s “ILL” is a resounding reminder that we are all messed up one way or the other. The track is quite trippy and cinematic which really sets the tone for Cross’s dark lyrics and low vocal tone delivery. She is quite unapologetic and dives into how the disease of sin affects our lives.

Deleteeglitch delvers this off-beat, experimental piece titled “Dirtydigitaldikk.” Made up of dark, gritty sound designs and moody vibes, the rapper brings to the forefront his unique off-kilter style with much gusto.

Bologna-based production duo MACK team up with eclectic emcee AKUA NARU on this solid collaboration titled “Fire Among Us” Backed by the dynamic and experimental backdrop laced by the duo, NARU delivers a heartfelt and evocative performance ripe with vivid and insightful elements. MACK is a cross-genre duo project founded by musicians/producers Marco Frattini (drums and electronics) and Federico Squassabia (Keys and synths).

Singer/instrumentalist Matt Storm teams up with vocalist Nicky Mackenzie for this sublime and soulful piece titled “Bite My Tongue.” The duo share their experiences on the kind of people they meet during the night outs and it’s quite interesting and relatable. The track has a sublime and somber vibe that blends with the singer’s sultry melodic runs. There are quite a lot of switch-ups and breakdowns that make it engaging as well.

New Jersey-based Underground Emcee (Via Cleveland, OH) Bad Habbits teams up with the veteran Young Zee of the Outsidaz fame on his new release titled “Let’s Go.” The Sam Da Grouch-produced track has a mellow, trippy vibe that sees Bad Habbits delivering bravado-laden bars with his distinct slow flow approach. Young Zee is not far behind and compliments the track with his gritty style.
