Duce Banx – “Underrated & Jaded” (Album)

Virginia recording artist Duce Banx is coming off a 10 year hiatus with a very heartfelt body of work, “Underrated & Jaded“. After taking so much time away from music, Banx is ready to share his new perspectives with 12 tracks that help to shape where he is currently along his musical journey.

Over the years, Banx has gathered new experiences that translate through is new music, and listeners can take fancy in how polished his album is with heavy hitting tracks like “Man In The City,” “Keep It True,” & “Humble King to Humble Beast”.

Underrated & Jaded is the first piece of work I put together, and I did it all myself. There’s no features, I picked all my own beats, and just bet on myself. I said I just wanted to be myself and be real. I tried to put together in a way that when you listen you feel every emotion… or at least the ones I felt when I was writing. -Duce Banx

Treat yourself to Duce Banx and his latest sounds, and keep it locked as he’ll be pumping out new visuals and content to accompany his album reintroduction, soon.

Puku Is “In These Streets”

Miami recording artist Puku is a new tyrant in Hip Hop. Self-made, strong will, and ill-minded on the mic, he continuously releases music that fans enjoy and converts new listeners with daily. Today, we receive the latest track from the rising star in “In These Streets.” A track about superficial women and the natural light they bestow.

On making the new song, he says, “Things changed and I’m okay with that. Love ain’t to common in our era, so I might as well get lit with some of the homies and live a little more freely. The second someone gets a chance to leave you for a situation they perceive to be better, they’ll take it without any regard having any regards to you. It ain’t no love in these streets.”

Available on Tell Your People, “In These Streets” is produced by Puku-himself. Want more of Puku? Follow him on Twitter for daily updates and more.

Layla – “Vacation”

New York-based singer-songwriter Layla shares a buttery-smooth new single, “Vacation,” that arrives right on time for lovers to celebrate the holiday and each other.

Despite its name, “Vacation” isn’t a call for visiting somewhere new and different with a loved one. Rather, it’s an opportunity for listeners to recognize that sometimes, being with that special someone is an actual vacation, be it from work, stress, or anything else. Or as Layla herself says, “This song is about my love for that person, and about how no matter what we were doing, or where we were, life always felt like a vacation. Sweet and easy.”

And if you’re loving the Cupla Beats-produced “Vacation” as much as we are, stay tuned for her forthcoming EP, NOMAD. It features this track and more fire from this rising vocalist, who chose the title based on her lifestyle that has taken her from country to country over the years. It’s also had a major influence on her music, which you’ll hear on the EP as well.

Head over to your preferred digital retailer or streaming platform to support “Vacation,” available now through Layla’s own imprint, Nomad Entertainment.

For Kobe, Dallas Lyricist Jui$e Leroy Drops “824”

Kobe Bryant 1978-2020

The world still mourns the loss of soon-to-be first ballot NBA hall-of-famer Kobe Bryant. In honor of his memory, Jui$e Leroy has released a new song paying tribute to the late-Los Angeles Laker and his daughter. Produced by Zac Brunson (Justin Bieber), in “824,” the star on the rise channels his Mamba mentality as he reflects on the life and times of the icon which he remembers iconic moments in his career like his five championships and inspirational messages. Leroy created the emotional song the evening of Kobe’s death while in Los Angeles, California.

Stream “824” by Jui$e Leroy” below.

“In honor Kobe Bryant my team and I released a song commemorating the legacy and effect that he had on me,” Leroy wrote about where he was the moment he heard of Kobe’s passing. “Coincidently I was in LA at the time of his untimely demise. I woke up to My manager Shamar saying, ‘guess what bro, Kobe died.’ I blew that off like stop lying just to fact check him and realize it was true, unfortunately. We had a recording session set and the first beat that Zac Brunson played talked to me and I openly expressed what I felt at that moment. He pulled out his guitar and went in. It was all surreal but this tribute to him is from a real place and from the experience of the energy felt in LA and all around the world at that time. Live long Black Mamba.”

Jui$e Leroy is recognized as currently one of the best lyricists in Dallas, Texas. Coming from an area who pride themselves on their chopped and screwed and trap melodic sound. He goes left with a traditional jam-packed verbal execution on every track. Every word is identical, crafty and sophisticated. Methodical, Jui$e Leroy epitomizes the true meaning of the phrase, Lone Star.

Golden Era Hip-Hop Radio (Mastermind Mondays)

Mastermind Street Jam was a weekly hip-hop mixshow on Energy 108 (107.9 fm) that served the Hamilton, Burlington, and Toronto areas in the mid to late 1990s.

This show was required listening. It was unique because it was on commercial radio Saturdays from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. It then moved to Monday and Tuesday nights from Midnight to 1:00 a.m..

I taped the shows on cassette religiously for years and managed to keep a hold of most of them. I thought it was well beyond time that I digitized them to share with all of you. I have over 100 tapes from 1994 through 1997. I plan to release a new episode weekly for as long as I can.

DJ Mastermind is still active on Toronto radio and gave me his blessing to share these. I hope you enjoy the trip down memory lane.

Press play and enjoy the first two tapes from my collection. And follow the Mixcloud account to stay up to date on all the new episodes I will be dropping weekly.

Downloads will be available for a limited time only.

Tape 1 – October 8, 1994

Tape 2 – October 15, 1994
