Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 5 Videos. This is a segment where we will be looking at some exceptional visuals from various acts from around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades and through the 90s and 2000s, it has really taken flight from multi-million budget music videos, to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but rather highlight some of the creative visuals that pop up on our radar.
Bullet Brak – “Breathe Out”
Bullet Brak helped open up this week’s list with the lyric video of his single “Breathe Out”. The smoky joint sees him in his smoky essence. The song samples a classic soulful guitar lick that real heads would recognize. The visual taps into the herb inspired theme of the song as well.
Flower Child x Jah Born – “Blacks & Blues”
Singer Flower Child and producer Jah Born share visuals for their collaborative single titled “Blacks & Blues”. The heartfelt track dives into self-love and being comfortable in one’s skin and Flower Child gives a solid performance over Jah Born’s soulful soundscape. The visual captures Flower Child on a journey to find her true self and after going through the wringer she realizes that all she had to do was look within.
NBG 23 – “Out Of Sight”
Rapper/songwriter NBG 23 shares the visuals for his song “Out Of Sight” which sees him musing on a rocky love and being vulnerable. The production is made up of lush guitar riffs, punchy trap drums and a distinct melodic flow that stands out. The visual follows the rapper as he tries to find peace after back and forth with his girl.
Chughey – “MIDDLE GROUND”
Rapper Chughey caught our eyes with the visuals for his song “MIDDLE GROUND” which captures his unique rage fulled style. Over a moody soundscape, he gives a rousing performance ripe with reflective and insightful bars. The visual shot in black and white is a mix of dark moody aesthetics and motifs that capture his true state of mind and his off-kilter rap style.
iDaWiLL – “The World Is Ours”
DMV-based Sierra Leonean musical author/composer iDaWiLL reminds us that “The World Is Ours” only if we focus enough. The aspirational track is made up of soulful textures and snapping drum grooves that blend with the rapper’s laidback flow and refletcive lyrics. The visual concept has a sepia-tone and introspective feel and the use of several performance shots also add a warm vibe to it all.
KSI – “Summer Is Over”
KSI closes out this week’s video list with “Summer Is Over” which continues his slew of releases since his return to the boxing ring. The track is another pop/r&B anthem that showcases his songwriting and versatile music style. Over a lush and upbeat soundscape, he takes time to reflect on his many ventures in the summer and all the ups and downs that brought him to this point.
