Lupe Fiasco shows us how “Drill Music In Zion” sounds like

Lupe Fiasco‘s new single “Drill Music In Zion” is the title track of his forthcoming album and once again showcases his vivid lyrical style and knack for penning profound song concepts. The track is produced by his longtime collaborator Soundtrakk who gifts him with a somber jazz-infused backdrop that strays completely from the genre mentioned in the title itself. The soundscape is cinematic and gloomy with its soft strings, airy horns, and sparsely arranged drums which blends perfectly with Lupe’s graphic description of the modern life we live in. Lupe approaches it from a bird’s eye view and details the numerous forms of escapism, personal greed, and the insatiable need for profit while damning the consequences. Lupe’s commentary is worth noting with the following lines

Logic’s on the rocket, what profit defeats a conscience?
Somebody’s daughter is contemplating the convent
But a man with a dollar is slobbering for her honchos
Mouth is just watering for some nonsense
And this might be the moment her modeling probably launches

He continues in the same tangent as he explores the other ways, mass exploitation has seeped into the fabric of society and wraps it up with a laidback subtle melodic hook.

“DRILL MUSIC IN ZION” is the title track of Lupe’s next album and the follow up to his previous single AUTOBOTO” ft. Nayirah, a mischievous, playful, and deceptively dense single. DRILL MUSIC IN ZION arrives on June 24th via 1st & 15th/Thirty Tigers.

Beyond music, Lupe continues to focus on the community organizations he founded, including We Are M.U.R.A.L, The Neighborhood Start-Up Fund, Society of Spoken Art, and his cross-cultural content venture, Studio SV. Earlier this year, Lupe accepted a professorship at MIT, where he will teach the course of a special subject on rap in spring 2023.

Lupe recently launched his “LFT” program, a new NFT program that allows fans to get closer than ever to Lupe. Unlike many NFTs, which solely exist in the digital space, the “LFT” program offers token-holders an array of online and offline benefits. The benefits start with a generative art profile pic–each LFT holder gets a unique digital artwork inspired by Lupe’s album Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool, which celebrates its 15th birthday this year.
