Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 5 Videos. This is a segment where we will be looking at some exceptional visuals from various acts from around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades and through the 90s and 2000s, it has really taken flight from multi-million budget music videos, to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but rather highlight some of the creative visuals that pop up on our radar.

 

 

 

 

V Knuckles – “Earl Simmons” prod. by Luka Milliano

We start off this week’s visual list with this stunning video clip from Cambridge, MA artist V Knuckles who comes through with “Earl Simmons”. Bolstered by the anthemic soundscape provided by Luka Milliano, V Knuckles pay homage to his friends and of course the late great DMX who personified the dog character. The visual by D Gomez Films is quite engaging and makes use of subtle visual effects, performance shots and a stylish tribute to DMX’s video style with Pitbulls and thick chains.

Lola Ladae’ – “You Deserve It”

St. Louis-raised, Atlanta-based neo-soul songstress, songwriter and instrumentalist, Lola Ladae caught our ears and eyes with the visuals for her single “You Deserve It”. The mellow heart-rending ballad sees her reclaiming her strength after leaving a toxic relationship. She delivers a solid and unapologetic sultry performance over the moody and sparse but punchy backdrop. The visuals are quite unique and merge a relatable storyline with performance shots and engaging motifs that accentuate her distinct style.

 

 

AdrianK – “Escalate”

AdrianK raises the ante with “Escalate”, an upbeat record made up of thick bass lines, cowbells and moody textures. The rapper delivers a stream of consciousness flow riddled with off-kilter references and a carefree cadence to boot. For the visuals he teams up with KINDA_DOMAIN who makes use of weird retro-visual effects and random clips from different sources.

 

 

 

 

 

Savage The Poet – F**k Being Humble (feat. Mic Massive & Akuma)

 

Savage The Poet gets in his bag in “F**k Being Humble“, a punchy no holds barred tune that sees him teaming with  Mic Massive and Akuma. The visual taps into the summertime vibe and sees the emcees doing what they do.

 

 

Lord Willin x Mr. Phormula – “No Holding Us Back”

The ever-working Lord Willin and Mr. Phormula help close out this week’s list with the visuals for their collaborative track titled “No Holding Us Back“. As the title suggests, it is a pure display of bravado and fiery bars from the newly formed duo known as Hel Clecs (Welsh for “Spreading Rumors”). Lord Willin leads the charge with his complex rhyme schemes and bass-laden vocals followed by Mr. Phormula’s slightly pitched-up vocal tone and animated flow.

The visual goes straight to the point with smooth and seamless transitions and performance shots to match.
