M8alla shares two joints “What Happened?” and “Gimme Racks” from her stash

Emerging Washington, DC singer/songwriter M8alla caught our ears with her brand of genre-bending, high energy R&B/soul/hip-hop fusion. She has two joints for us to get into this week so without further ado, let us get it cracking.

The first cut “What Happened?” is a vibrant uber-confident track that showcases the singer’s commanding vocals and knack for penning catchy melodies that stays in the ears for long. Over a punchy hard-hitting crisp backdrop, she details a tale of a guy who brags about being the big kahuna beneath the sheets but unfortunately he didn’t live up to the hype. M8alla’s smooth harmonies take center stage here as she weaves and glides over the club-ready beat.

The second cut titled “Gimme Racks” sees her embodying a more sultry and bravado energy with a go-getter mentality. She makes use of a bass-heavy, pounding production to deliver her message. She delivers a rap-infused flow and reminds listeners that she is a boss and doesn’t have time to horse around. The track also features rapper Ducee’ DropTop on the 3rd verse who comes through with his unique hushed flow.

M8ALLA born in Paris, France to a Cameroonian Ambassador and a seamstress/teacher, came into the world destined to love and absorb new cultures. As a self-proclaimed citizen of the world raised in Washington, DC, she uses her international perspective to sing over percussion-heavy beats with R&B/hip hop influences and African and Caribbean inflections. It’s a genre she’s grown to call “Tribal Trap.” The use of the number ‘8’ in her name represents the curves of a woman’s body but also alludes to an M8 assault rifle. She feels her music captures the essence of both. M8ALLA has shared the stage with acts like Big Freedia, Oshun, Rapsody, DVSN, and Grammy award-winning Miguel.
