Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 5 Videos. This is a segment where we will be looking at some exceptional visuals from various acts from around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades and through the 90s and 2000s, it has really taken flight from multi-million budget music videos, to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but rather highlight some of the creative visuals that pop up on our radar.

 

 

 

 

 

Ryan Oakes – “WAKE UP”

Ryan Oakes starts our video playlist with his new release “WAKE UP”. The track is a vibrant and edgy tune ripe with his off-kilter and unapologetic rhyme schemes. The music video marks the first installment of a four-part music video series that weaves together a compelling narrative in which Ryan finds himself ensnared in a straight jacket at a glitched-out and nightmare-ish psychiatry ward as he’s tortured by sleazy businessmen and evil surgeons who are out to take advantage of the young artist.

 

Bobby Thibs – “Something”

Bobby Thibs returns to our list with the visual for his song “Something”. The reflective record sees him detailing his struggles with mental health, substance abuse and shaky relationships. The visual shows the rapper draped by a moody and dark backdrop and the use of psychedelic effects and sublime transitions add a nice touch to the theme of the song.

 

James Chatburn – “Some Kind Of Fool”

Berlin-based Australian singer/songwriter/producer James Chatburn is back with a new single “Some Kind Of Fool” and its accompanying visual. The song dives into the realization that one is being taken advantage of by other people and making the right move by calling it out. The production is soothing and solemn and Chatburn’s sublime and airy melodic runs take center stage as he croons with much emotional intensity. The video has an ethereal and dreamy aesthetic as directors Shari Annabell Marks and Dhanesh Jayaselan blend live performance elements with local Berlin dancers moving in free form in an open misty light space, transforming this vintage groove into a floating fairytale-like image.

SAM TOMPKINS – “Lose It All (Live)”

Brighton-based  Sam Tompkins makes his entry on our site with the live visuals for his single “Lose It All “. The record is a heartfelt and emotionally punchy tune that talks about appreciating that special someone before it’s too late. Over a soothing and sombre piano-driven soundscape, Sam delivers a soul-stirring and heart-rending performance that really strikes a cord. This is the first single from his hugely anticipated debut album,

 

 

Front Row Seats – “On My Mind”

Front Row Seats close out the list with visuals for the song “On My Mind”, a smooth neo-soul, jazz, funk-infused piece that is as vibrant as they come. From the warm basslines, rich guitar plucks and hushed drum grooves that rise to a plateau on the chorus section to the sultry melodic runs and vivid songwriting.  It’s the second track from Front Row Seats.
